WEP is a short term used for Wireless Equivalent Privacy. It is an encryption protocol which is being delimited in the standard of 802.11. It does help in protecting the wireless networks. Later, WPA replaced WEP. WPA is an amended encryption standard which has been introduced with 802.11i.
