RouterA device which automatically sends the packets of data through the networks is known as a Router. It is a device which is connected with minimum 2 networks, normally WANs or LANs or a LAN with IPS’s network.

A gateway is a place where multiple networks get connected and it is the main location of the routers. Routers use protocols, like ICMP for communicating, as well as configuring the best possible route between two hosts. Also, it uses the headers as well as the forwarding tables for determining the best path to forward the packets.

For deep understanding about the router, you must know about the Broadband connection. It is a transmission medium which basically carries the signals at a high-speed from the network carriers through a fiber-optic or a single coaxial cable.
