The binary data is measured in bytes and one of the most common multiple units is Kilobyte. The word ‘kilo’ refers to 1000, by 1 Kilobyte is 1024 bytes. It is significantly used for measuring or describing the disk storage or the memory capacity. The smallest measurement of the unit is Bit and a kilobyte is one of the most convenient ways of specifying the large number of bits. The kilobyte is applied for the measurement of the capacity of iPhone memory chip, hard drive disk storage, SD memory chip, flash drive or the processor cache size, ROM or RAM memory size. It is abbreviated as KB or K and preceeds to megabyte. Kilobytes are used for measuring the files, which are smaller in size. It is even defined by IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) as 1000 bytes and KB is equal to the value. If the ‘b’ is written in lower case as ‘Kb’, then it is referred as Kilobit.
