A programming language, originally named as Oak, developed at Sun Microsystems by James Gosling and others.
In 1995, Java was first introduced for creating Internet applications along with various other software programs.
At present, this programming language is maintained as well as owned by Oracle. When Java is being used on the Internet, it allows applets to download which are further used through a browser.
Also, it is being used in various software programs, add-ons and games. Like, for instance, Minecraft, Adobe Creative Suite, OpenOffice, Eclipse, Vuze, Lotus Notes and Runescape are some of the widely used programs which use Java or written in Java.
